About Us:
The Worthing Malayalee Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Malayalam language, literature, and culture. Through various programs and activities, we aim to foster cultural exchange and community engagement, benefiting all age groups.
History of Onam:
Onam is an ancient festival celebrated by Malayalees around the world. It marks the homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali, whose reign is considered the golden era of Kerala. The festival, celebrated in the month of Chingam (August-September), is a time for unity, family gatherings, and cultural activities. Traditional rituals, feasts, music, dance, and games are integral parts of this celebration, symbolizing the prosperity and harmony of Mahabali’s kingdom.
Event Highlights:
Morning Activities (Outdoor):
- Arts and Sports Activities: Enjoy a morning filled with fun arts and sports activities on the open grounds, suitable for all ages.
Traditional Onam Sadhya (1:00 PM Onwards):
- Savor an authentic and delicious feast with over 20 traditional dishes, prepared with love and tradition.
Afternoon & Evening Programs (Indoor):
- Cultural Programs: Experience mesmerizing performances of dance, music, and drama that showcase Kerala’s rich heritage.
- DJ & Fashion Show: Dance the evening away with vibrant music and enjoy a special fashion show, adding excitement and style to the celebration.
